Summary

Przez dwa lata mały człowiek przesiadywał na ławce w parku。 Ludzie mijali go, pogrążeni we własnych myslach。 Pewnego dnia ktoś zadał mu pytanie。 W następnych tygodniach coraz więcej ludzi przychodziło i stawiało mu pytania。 Po pewnym czasie rozniosła się wieść, że ten człowiek jest kimś niezwykłym, kimś, kto odkrył coś, co sprawia, że życie nabiera sensu, staje się pełnią。 Ta historia wydarzyła się naprawdę, a jej bohater nazywa się Eckhart Tolle。 Jego pierwsza książka - Potęga teraźniejszości - uczyniła go sławnym na całym świecie。

It's an underwhelming read。 There are parts of the books that provoke real introspection and self exploration and others that perpetuate reductionist, new-age rhetoric。 Tolle's writing comes across as both mend-bending and mind-numbing。 It's an underwhelming read。 There are parts of the books that provoke real introspection and self exploration and others that perpetuate reductionist, new-age rhetoric。 Tolle's writing comes across as both mend-bending and mind-numbing。 。。。more

This is one of the course books in IIM Bangalore。 I never read it, I didn't see the significance of it。 A few months ago I rediscovered Eckhart Tolle on YouTube and decided to give this book a read。 And I have to say that this is a very powerful book。 It requires a certain kind of life experience and aspirations to get to the core of this book。 But when you do, it makes a lot of sense。 I found the concept of pain-body described in the book very useful。 This is one of the course books in IIM Bangalore。 I never read it, I didn't see the significance of it。 A few months ago I rediscovered Eckhart Tolle on YouTube and decided to give this book a read。 And I have to say that this is a very powerful book。 It requires a certain kind of life experience and aspirations to get to the core of this book。 But when you do, it makes a lot of sense。 I found the concept of pain-body described in the book very useful。 。。。more

This book underpins a lot of modern new age spirituality。 It's like reading the dictionary to know the words that you will be seeing in multiple other places (not to say Eckhart invented the concepts but I think he spearheaded a current new age trend)。 The core messages of this book are brilliant。 Although I don't fully follow Eckhart and all his philosophy I am grateful for his teachings。 This book underpins a lot of modern new age spirituality。 It's like reading the dictionary to know the words that you will be seeing in multiple other places (not to say Eckhart invented the concepts but I think he spearheaded a current new age trend)。 The core messages of this book are brilliant。 Although I don't fully follow Eckhart and all his philosophy I am grateful for his teachings。 。。。more

The power of now by Eckhart TolleAn entire book about how to be present in every moment of your life。 Don’t focus on past, nor future。 Focus on now。 I rarely make it to the end of a non-fiction, but this book was quite good。 I’ll cherry pick my favorite parts, as you do with “self help。”But this is one of my favs:“Your life’s journey is no longer an adventure, just an obsessive need to arrive, to attain, to “make it。” You no longer see or smell the flowers by the wayside either, nor are you awar The power of now by Eckhart TolleAn entire book about how to be present in every moment of your life。 Don’t focus on past, nor future。 Focus on now。 I rarely make it to the end of a non-fiction, but this book was quite good。 I’ll cherry pick my favorite parts, as you do with “self help。”But this is one of my favs:“Your life’s journey is no longer an adventure, just an obsessive need to arrive, to attain, to “make it。” You no longer see or smell the flowers by the wayside either, nor are you aware of the beauty and the miracle of life that unfolds all around you when you are present in the Now。” 。。。more

It’s interesting as a beginners thought piece on existentialism, suffering, the idea of presence and the mind。I don’t have much to comment on whether he is the best person to go to for teachings about enlightenment and spirituality because I don’t know much about that。 I have seen comments about how his ideas stem from eastern philosophies and religion。 I read this alongside other self help books and had a few qualms about how they brush over the influence of external forces (like governments, i It’s interesting as a beginners thought piece on existentialism, suffering, the idea of presence and the mind。I don’t have much to comment on whether he is the best person to go to for teachings about enlightenment and spirituality because I don’t know much about that。 I have seen comments about how his ideas stem from eastern philosophies and religion。 I read this alongside other self help books and had a few qualms about how they brush over the influence of external forces (like governments, institutional structures, how different groups of people may face different types and conditions of sufferings) and it laid the onus on just the reader to be awake。。。 stop thinking or you will suffer! From the first 2 chapters, it looks like the book consists of the answers to the "life questions" from the author。 The book is on the spiritual side of the spectrum and often tells about some definitions, which are not well defined and can mean very different things for different people。It has such red flags as "it was proved by scientists that 。。。" without citing the source or research。But I definitely can see, why this book may help people to live a better and happier life。 Almost anybody can From the first 2 chapters, it looks like the book consists of the answers to the "life questions" from the author。 The book is on the spiritual side of the spectrum and often tells about some definitions, which are not well defined and can mean very different things for different people。It has such red flags as "it was proved by scientists that 。。。" without citing the source or research。But I definitely can see, why this book may help people to live a better and happier life。 Almost anybody can find pieces, which relate to themselves or pieces which will help to ask important questions about themselves。 。。。more

You literally cannot even comprehend what Tolle is talking about unless/until you experience it in person, and it can’t be forced。 If you’re looking for it, it will evade you。 It’s like trying to describe flavor to someone who’s never eaten。 What you are looking for cannot be found by reading books。 Also this book is boring。 Go out and enjoy and live life。 If it happens great, if not no worries。 Again this thing cannot he found by reading books (i’ve been down that path and it wasn’t there)。

A loan from my Yoga Teacher (obvs) this was an interesting read even if at points Eckhart Tolle really, really comes across as the pub bore/bell-end that no-one would want to listen to in real life。 I'm not sure if the 'questioner' in the book was a real person or not but he has the patience of a Saint。 Anyway, if you can keep your emotions in check about his condescending tone there are some real gems of advice in here, it is also though full of waffle。 Take from it what you will, I was glad to A loan from my Yoga Teacher (obvs) this was an interesting read even if at points Eckhart Tolle really, really comes across as the pub bore/bell-end that no-one would want to listen to in real life。 I'm not sure if the 'questioner' in the book was a real person or not but he has the patience of a Saint。 Anyway, if you can keep your emotions in check about his condescending tone there are some real gems of advice in here, it is also though full of waffle。 Take from it what you will, I was glad to have read it, I wouldn't necessarily advise anyone else to。 。。。more

I guess you could call this an interesting refection on ego and spirituality, if you get around the constant cliches。 I liked this book and would recomend with the warning of it being a little corny about it all。

Garrick

Some good snippets here and there but the content is very repetitive。 Also, not a fan of Tolle’s voice, who seems to say things to be the absolute truth (whatis-ness indeed) and thus not bother trying to put up justifications or try to help the reader understand。 The flow and structure of the book (FAQ-style) also did not sit well with me。

This book is best read in chunks。 It is dense。 I tried listening while cleaning and that was unproductive。。。it requires frequent pauses to consider the concepts。My interpretation is that it offers advice on how to live in the present。 (Though I am always puzzled by what that means。) There were some moments in the book that delve below that vague phrase and from what I gather, the message is that we have two parts to ourselves。 One part is the intellectual mind-an aspect of the unconscious-that h This book is best read in chunks。 It is dense。 I tried listening while cleaning and that was unproductive。。。it requires frequent pauses to consider the concepts。My interpretation is that it offers advice on how to live in the present。 (Though I am always puzzled by what that means。) There were some moments in the book that delve below that vague phrase and from what I gather, the message is that we have two parts to ourselves。 One part is the intellectual mind-an aspect of the unconscious-that has to deal with the practicalities of life: get food, get the kids to school, go to work, pay for expenses, etc。 Then there is the other us。 The conscious being or spiritual aspect that remains constant。。。our core self that doesn't change with circumstance。 This is the observer who sees what is happening but doesn't judge or attach emotion to the daily fluctuations in our lives。 To live consciously in the present is to be in touch with this part of ourselves。 The intent is to be conscious all the time。。。to act as that observer and while we still feel, we don't allow the ego to influence our actions。 I'm not sure how anyone can accomplish this。 I may have missed the point but the answers to the questions posed in the book seemed incomplete, like I'm missing a key to the message。 I can see why other reviewers think Tolle is trying to redefine Christianity or how he is too harsh in his comments on illness, toxicity or our daily challenges。 Though I know the ego can take over and cause pain, anxiety, or illness on its own。 It's a powerful part of the mind。Ultimately this book is worth a read for those interested in exploring the idea of our conscious vs unconscious selves。 。。。more

Really love the message, working on becoming more present。 However, I found this book a bit inaccessible。

assolutamente meraviglioso, ho sottolineato un sacco di frasi ed è uno di quei libri che tutti dovremmo leggere!

I would give this 6 stars if I could。 Understanding the importance of making a shift into the present moment is the most powerful technique one can use for improvement and satisfaction in literally every area of life。
